Rock meets Jugband as the risingly popular phenomenon known as Ukes Of Earl defy musical convention and puppet theater alike with a unique performance during the Puppet Karaoke Old Tyme Hootenanny Show. The genre-smashing duo will kick out their trademark songs while crazy characters sing onstage in a experimental blend of handmade music and homemade hand puppets with more than a dash of improv comedy and zany skits.
The Ukes Of Earl have quickly charmed the Tri-State area with their refreshingly honest ability and knack for classically fun material that makes them true innovators in the competitive ukulele scene. As hosts of the latest installment of the ongoing Puppet Karaoke Show, the Ukes (as they are known to fans) will play live and join forces with the irreverent puppet cast, a hodgepodge group of bizarre creations such as Wiggle Me Wilferd, the world's most special librarian, and The Division Kid, a math-obsessed being with a voice not unlike Sean Connery. The Puppet Karaoke Universe Show tours Philadelphia and New York venues with a new celebrity host in each program. Past hosts have included clown artist Paul Palcko, improv troupe Rare Bird Show and local thespian David Commander. The event combines whacky hand puppet theater with late-night bar karaoke, and audience members can participate with their own puppet characters and be seen in the show's companion video podcast series. The Puppet Karaoke Old Tyme Hootenanny Show is Thursday, April 17th at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $5 and are available online or at the door. The M-Room is located at 15 W Girard Ave in Philadelphia, PA 19125 |
