The multimedia comedy troupe Waiting For Cable brings its highly successful interactive Puppet Karaoke show to the Brooklyn area with a gaggle of singing hand puppets and improv naughtiness to match. The three-year-running live show will appear at Galapagos Art Space at 70 North 6th Street in Williamsburg on Monday, June 25th, in a special engagement presented by the monthly PUNCH performance series.
The Puppet Karaoke Universe Show is a anarchic blend of late-night bar karaoke with unadulterated hand puppets of all shapes and sizes. The regular cast includes such melodious misfits as the super-cute Mitzil P, sleuthing squares The Boxy Twins and angst-ridden agoraphobic Tony Trainwreck. The puppets perform real karaoke, as do participating audience members, who may bring their own original creations to perform or build impromptu puppets onsite using provided craft supplies. Prizes are often awarded and the show has a companion weekly video podcast series that features 'best of' highlights in addition to skits and music videos featuring the puppets. "...compare the Puppet Karaoke experience to accidentally finding oneself at open mic night on the set of HR Puff N' Stuff; but no matter which way you choose to look at it, Puppet Karaoke is loads of fun" - Phillyist Waiting For Cable consists of filmmakers Alex Strang and R.S. Purcell, who both work in the film business and felt a desperate need to 'open the doors' of live puppetry theatre to the entertainment-thirsty bar crowd scene. The presenter of this event is PUNCH, NYC's monthly puppet slam, curated by Gretchen Van Lente, of Drama of Works. The slam is supported, in part, by puppetslam.com The Puppet Karaoke Big Brooklyn Punch-Out is Monday, June 25th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Galapagos is located at 70 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NYC 11211 More information at http://www.puppetkaraoke.com (photos and videos available) |
