The talky triad of petroleum-plastered puppets known as the Oil Slick Gang will emcee an unpredictable night of live music, fine art and short film during this year's Fishtasticon 3, the annual multimedia showcase run by local arts organization PositiveSpace, a bedrock of creativity in the Fishtown community. A highlight of the Fringe Festival, this year's talent-packed show will be Friday Sep 7th at 9PM, at the M-Room, 15 West Girard Ave.
The OIl Slick Gang is a popular threesome of environmentally-challenged puppets who have starred in many live events and in a number of films such as 'Make Coffee Not OIl', a rambling treatise where Fish, Bird and Otter belabor the state of everything from Greek Mythology to Juan Valdez. Created by Alex Strang and R.S. Purcell of comedy group Waiting For Cable, originators of the infamousPuppet Karaoke Universe Show and comedy shorts like Horror Girl and Miracle Muff, theOil Slick Gang are the lone wildlife survivors of the famous Exxon-Valdez disiaster. Waiting For Cable is lending a hand to this year's Fishtasticon event to help benefit PositiveSpace and the Fishtown arts scene with the chatty antics and irreverent style of The Oil Slick Gang's much-ballyhooed cutting-edge hosting style, one that evokes Don Rickles-esque jabbers with lobotomized Laugh-In groaners. The targets of their unbridled wit, scheduled musical guests include DJ Brendan, Keni Thomas, Pro Viso, and Tony Violence with visuals by EagleApex and Turtleskull. More artists are likely to appear in this evolving creativity free-for-all. PositiveSpace is an Artists Collective founded in 2002 with a mission to foster a network of local artists and to develop relationships between artists and their community. Previous events have included the perennial Arts & Crap Sale and the Standard Craft and Rocket Craft sales, as well as various art openings throughout the area. The M-Room is located at 15 W Girard Ave in Fishtown, Philadelphia. The show is Friday, Sep 7th at 9:00 PM. There is a $10 cover.
